We're looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the role of Cyber Security Engineer in the ICT & Digital Transformation Team. The ICT & Digital Transformation team mission is to provide digital systems that are customer focused, easy to use, reliable, flexible, and meet the needs of all our stakeholders.
About The Role
We're looking for a proactive and technically skilled Cyber Security Engineer to help protect our systems, data and services, while supporting the continued development of a strong cyber security culture across Karbon Homes. Working as part of the ICT & Digital Transformation team, as the Cyber Security Engineer, you will lead by example by working closely with colleagues across ICT, and project teams, as well as external partners, to embed security best practice into day-to-day operations and future technology change. From supporting security monitoring and incident response through to improving policies, controls and awareness, this is a varied role where your work will make a real difference. This includes the following responsibilities:
- Monitor, detect and respond to cyber security threats and incidents.
- Support the management of vulnerability, patching and endpoint security controls.
- Help design, implement and maintain secure network, cloud and endpoint environments.
- Contribute to security governance, reporting, audits and compliance activity including working to standards such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Promote cyber security awareness and support a positive security culture across the organisation.
As part of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team, you'll help protect the organisation's infrastructure, services and data, working closely with colleagues to deliver secure, reliable services and create a supportive environment where everyone can perform at their best.

About You
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
- Hands-on experience in cyber security or security engineering, with a good understanding of enterprise security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, EDR, SIEM, Microsoft Defender, and vulnerability management tools.
- Confidence working with cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure, and able to translate security risks into clear business impact.
- Ability to respond under pressure and build trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Relevant cyber security certifications, such as Microsoft SC-200, SC-300, AZ-500, SC-100 or ISC2 SSCP, CCSP or CISSP, would be highly valued.
- Experience in security incident detection, response and recovery.
You may also need to collaborate with suppliers where necessary to drive change.
By applying an agile approach to product development you will engage with the relevant stakeholders in the planning and requirement stages along with documenting and handing over to support.

Key Details
- Cyber Security Engineer - permanent role
- Salary is £56,939 per annum
- Contractual Location to be agreed with the candidate at one of our main offices in Gosforth (NE12 8EG) or Stanley (DH9 7YE). Due to the nature of the role office presence is required throughout week so successful candidate must live within commutable distance
- Regular travel to other offices across the North East will also be required
- 37 hours per week with agile working
