About the Role
I am currently engaged with a leading health care organisation that is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to join its Security function. This is an exciting opportunity for a security professional with strong Microsoft and Azure expertise to play a key role in protecting critical systems, data, identities, and cloud services.
Working closely with the Senior Cyber Security Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving cyber security controls across Microsoft 365, Azure, endpoint environments, and cloud platforms. You'll combine hands-on security engineering with governance, assurance, and compliance activities to ensure technology solutions remain secure, resilient, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Security Engineering (Primary)
- Design, implement, and manage security controls across Microsoft Azure
- Participate in architecture reviews for new systems, applications, and infrastructure projects to ensure security requirements are incorporated from the design phase.
- Implement and maintain Zero Trust security principles, ensuring verification of users, devices, and access requests at all layers, and reducing reliance on perimeter-based controls
- Secure Azure workloads and services, including virtual machines, storage accounts, databases, and platform services, ensuring secure configurations, encryption, and appropriate network controls (NSGs, private endpoints, Azure Firewall)
- Develop and maintain security baselines and configuration standards for cloud and endpoint environments, ensuring consistency and compliance across the organisation
- Support endpoint security and device management, working with Microsoft Intune to enforce compliance policies, device hardening, encryption (e.g., BitLocker), and secure configuration of user devices
- Continuously assess and improve the security posture of the Microsoft environment by leveraging Secure Score, Defender recommendations, and threat intelligence insights
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to ensure security controls are practical, effective, and aligned with business and operational needs
- Drive automation and efficiency by developing scripts and workflows to enhance security operations and reduce manual effort
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders, supporting the adoption of secure practices and ensuring that security considerations are embedded across all technology solutions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
