Job Description: Cyber Security Engineer – Automotive Embedded Systems
Applicants must be based in the UK to be considered for this position.
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will be a key member of the Cyber Security capability supporting the development and delivery of next-generation Autonomous, Connected, Electric, and Shared (ACES) vehicle architectures. You will play a critical role in defining and implementing cybersecurity strategies, processes, and technical solutions that protect vehicle systems throughout their lifecycle.
Based within the Vehicle Platform team, this role will work closely with the wider Powertrain, Chassis, and Body Domain Chapters, Engineering Squads, Technical Specialists, and suppliers to ensure effective delivery of cybersecurity solutions across vehicle programmes.
The successful candidate will lead cybersecurity activities for chassis features and technologies, ensuring alignment with internal cybersecurity lifecycle processes, project requirements, and industry standards.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Lead Cyber Security activities for chassis features and technologies in accordance with the internal vehicle cybersecurity lifecycle.
- Support the definition, development, and implementation of cybersecurity strategies, processes, and platforms for future vehicle architectures.
- Lead the implementation of embedded cybersecurity solutions, including:
- Secure Boot
- Secure Software Updates
- Software Authenticity
- Code Signing and validation mechanisms
- Specify, configure, and support the integration of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), cryptographic services, and associated security technologies.
- Define, analyse, and manage cybersecurity requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Review supplier cybersecurity technical solutions and ensure compliance with project cybersecurity requirements, internal processes, and relevant industry standards.
- Collaborate with interfacing engineering teams, including ADAS, Motion, Powertrain, and other vehicle domains, to ensure seamless integration of cybersecurity requirements.
- Engage with Cyber Security Subject Matter Experts, Lead Engineers, and Technical Specialists to drive cybersecurity awareness, best practices, and technical excellence across engineering teams.
- Support test engineers with the verification and validation of cybersecurity requirements, objectives, and solutions.
- Identify cybersecurity risks and support the development of appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cybersecurity engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of embedded cybersecurity concepts and security principles within automotive or other safety-critical environments.
- Good knowledge of cryptographic concepts, including:
- Symmetric and asymmetric encryption
- Hashing algorithms
- Digital signatures
- Certificate management
- Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- Practical experience with:
- Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)
- Cryptographic accelerators
- Secure elements
- Embedded security architectures
- Experience applying cybersecurity lifecycle processes in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434 or equivalent industry standards.
- Experience working with suppliers to define, review, and deliver cybersecurity solutions.
- Understanding of embedded systems, vehicle electronic architectures, and software development processes.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity testing, verification, and validation activities.
- Excellent teamwork, organisation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within the automotive industry or connected vehicle environments.
- Knowledge of vehicle network technologies and automotive communication protocols.
- Experience with automotive cybersecurity methodologies, including Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA).
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR security concepts and embedded software security practices.
- Experience working within Agile engineering environments and multidisciplinary technical teams.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant cybersecurity certifications or professional training would be advantageous.
