Cyber Security Engineer, Lead
Cyber Security Engineer (OT & SCADA) – Offshore Wind

The Technical Operations Offshore team supports global service and commissioning business with technical expertise, bridging engineering and local business units. We deliver high-quality support for service technicians, provide technical troubleshooting on SCADA and Power Plant Controller systems, and ensure secure, stable operations across offshore wind farms.
About the Role
As a Cyber Security Engineer (Operational Technology & SCADA) within Global Plant Operations Offshore, you will provide specialist expertise in OT security, ensuring the protection and stability of offshore wind farm operations. This role addresses critical challenges in industrial cybersecurity, remote access security, and compliance while working alongside global teams and field technicians.
Responsibilities
- Provide cybersecurity consulting for offshore OT networks, SCADA systems, industrial control systems (ICS), and digitalisation solutions
- Support Technical Operations Offshore, field technicians, and local service teams in:
- Secure remote access configuration, firewall hardening, and user management
- Real-time troubleshooting and remote support logistics (including shift work, 06:00–18:00 CET coverage, and weekend callouts)
- Implementing and enhancing network security controls
- Collaborate with Engineering, IT Security, third-level support, and external partners to drive industrial cybersecurity best practices and compliance with:
- IEC 62443 (Industrial automation & control systems, security)
- NIS 2 Directive and other cybersecurity regulations
- Contribute to audit activities and compliance verification in alignment with KRITIS mandates (German Critical Infrastructure Protection).
- Mentor junior engineers and ensure knowledge transfer for ongoing security technology improvements.
- Participate in commissioning and lifecycle security processes for new projects, ensuring secure integration, initial setup, and handover to operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Relevant experience in the following areas is essential:
- Solid hands-on knowledge of Cisco® networking equipment (minimum CCNA-certified, preferably higher-level certifications).
- Experience with industrial routers/switches and OT-specific cybersecurity challenges (e.g., segmentation, device hardening).
- Proficiency with network troubleshooting in operational environments.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols (MODBUS, IEC 104, OPC DA/UA) and industrial automation systems (If available: IEC 61850 for substations).
- Understandings of OT cybersecurity principles (e.g., least privilege, DLP, monitoring, patch management).
- Knowledge of dedicated industrial operating environments, adjusting secure configurations to stabilize older systems.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of cybersecurity standards & frameworks including:
- IEC 62443
- NIS 2 (Network and Information Systems Directive)
- German KRITIS (German Benchmark)
- Experience with configuration management, scripting, or automation tools where beneficial.

Beneficial but not mandatory:
- Deep understanding of Linux/Windows environments (e.g., Linux servers, Windows Server Active Directory, IGEs).
- Basic principles of virtualization (e.g., VMs for testing or wrapping legacy software).
- Understanding of DevSecOps or Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) practices.
Language skills:
- Professional-level English (written and spoken). Other languages are a plus.
Technical abilities:
- Comfort with IT tools: Microsoft Office primarily, secondary experience with cybersecurity-specific tools beneficial.
- Experience or eligibility for cable/commercial licences (passport, valid driver’s license preferred).

- Strong analytical mindset, able to apply methodical, systematic solutions to complex technical issues while prioritizing Operational Technology’s reliability.
- Focus on incident response and technical correctness in high-pressure environments, collaboratively resolving akut issues in a hands-on, cross-functional setting.
- Attention to detail when adapting security best practices to operational plant constraints.
- Collaborative problem-solving with plant technicians, support teams, engineering, and external cybersecurity partners.
- Clear communication skills to translate complex technical security solutions to a diverse audience including customer-facing interactions.
- Independent working under pressure while juggling responsibilities across geographic time zones.
- Bonus: Travel flexibility. DESfrequency and ability to adjust schedule as needed.
