About the Role
Join BT’s Managed Security and Cyber Operations team, protecting some of the UK’s most trusted organisations from an evolving cyber threat landscape. As a Cyber Security Governance & Assurance Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in managing security risk, compliance, governance activities, and data protection to ensure our services remain secure—and aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements.
This is an impactful opportunity to influence high-stakes outcomes, drive excellence across cyber security governance, and support BT’s vision of becoming the world’s most trusted connector of people, devices, and machines.
⚠️ Note: Security Clearance (SC) required—either held or applicable for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customer security assurance for assigned contracts, delivering end-to-end security oversight across the contract lifecycle.
- Develop and implement all aspects of security governance, risk, and compliance, ensuring full adherence to legal, regulatory, and BT security requirements, as well as industry best practices.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders—customers, suppliers, and internal teams—fostering strong relationships whilst delivering expert security guidance.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks while continuously improving security frameworks to safeguard people, information, and BT’s reputation.
- Spearhead assurance activities, including:
- Security audits
- Risk accreditation and compliance reviews
- Supplier compliance assessments
- Setting and resourcing effective controls

Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven stakeholder management with exceptional communication and engagement skills; ability to collaborate across internal and external teams, and influence decision-making at a strategic level.
- Strong background in security governance, risk and compliance, including:
- Risk assessments
- Audit management
- Security Improvement Plans (SIPs)
- Compliance with regulatory frameworks
- Advanced security accreditations (e.g., CISM, M.Inst.ISP, or equivalent) to evidence knowledge in transferring technical expertise into clear, actionable business outcomes.
- Deeper technical grounding in security architecture, operations, incident response, and emerging threats, with a skill set that translates complex security concepts into commercial insights.
- Commercial agility:
- Strong contract and relationship management
- Excellence in decision-making, reporting, and prioritisation
- Ability to deliver results on time and within scope
Desirable Skills and Experience
- C-level and board-level engagement for high-level stakeholders
- Practical operational or delivery experience of security requirements
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) compliance practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Familiarity with the Secure-by-Design framework
