About the Role
BT’s Defence security team is recruiting an experienced Technical Security and Information Assurance Specialist to support sensitive customer environments, ensuring Secure by Design principles. The role focuses on compliance with frameworks, policies, and legislation, including assessments of cloud, hybrid, networking, and on-premise architectures.
Your responsibilities include:
- Providing trusted security authority collaboration with engineering, operations, architects, and assurance bodies.
- Aligning with emerging threats, managing risk, and assuring end-to-end system lifecycles from возникновению Design through operation.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your work will encompass:
- Guiding thought leadership for BT’s future secure offerings, incorporating industry expertise in new technologies.
- Engaging with existing teams (including technical and business development leads) to understand, embed, and maintain security throughout design and operations.
- Supporting sales and business win teams, ensuring security deliverables are scheduled and aligned with business objectives.
- Conducting threat and risk assessments across BT Defence portfolios.
- Applying proportionate security controls tailored to organisational needs.
- Providing cyber security expertise to enhance Defence security collaboration.

Essential Skills & Experience
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Already hold or be capable of obtaining/maintaining a Security Clearance (SC). Sole UK nationality required.
- Demonstrate a proven track record in security and information risk management.
- Exhibit a strong technical understanding of:
- Cloud and hybrid security systems, including on-premise and distributed models.
- Network security covering WAN, LAN, and WLAN; integrating with BT’s ICT infrastructure and Def Stan assessments.
- Possess outstanding verbal/written communication skills.
- Have hands-on experience working with critical security documentation, such as:
- Security Management Plans
- Security Cases
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Desirable Skills & Experience
Useful qualifications include:
- Proficient experience in public-sector engagements, working alongside:
- MoD (Ministry of Defence)
- HM Government departments/agencies.
- Experience addressing contemporaneous threats, such as:
- Kubernetes (containerisation environments)
- Cryptographic security challenges
- Boundary protection frameworks relevant to defence environments.
- Knowledge and adherence to Defence Security Model standards, specifically:
- DEFCON 658
- DEFSTAN 05-138
- Creation of Cyber Implementation Plans (CIP) to adhere to Defence protocols.
