The Opportunity
You’ll join the Cyber Security and Compliance Team, reporting to the Cyber Security and Resilience Manager, with responsibilities including:
- Proactive monitoring and protection of the ICT infrastructure from cyber threats.
- Ensuring system resilience to support critical patient services.
- Collaborating to align stakeholders with UK and EU cybersecurity regulations and best practices.

Main Responsibilities
Core Tasks

Virtual Security Operations Centre (SOC) Function
- Monitor and review the Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) system.
- Proactively analyse and identify suspicious/malicious activities.
- Evaluate incident data for patterns, trends, and effective corrective/preventative actions.

Cyber Security Awareness & Compliance
- Support the Cyber Security Awareness Programme.
- Align with Information Security Management System (ISMS), Cyber Essentials, and NIS Regulation (NIS-R) requirements.

Threat Intelligence & Monitoring
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of cyber threats.
- Conduct threat hunting to strengthen defence.
- Develop and deploy compliance-monitoring tools.

Technical Advisory & Guidance
- Provide expert advice on ICT, information, and cyber security risks.
- Balance user needs with security controls.

Experience & Skills
Experience Requirements
Essential:
✔ Significant experience in a complex ICT environment, preferably with cybersecurity exposure. ✔ Knowledge of:
- Complex virtualised ICT configurations.
- Coding principles & Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Windows environments, system/OS logs, and multi-vendor IT contexts.
✔ Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Desirable:
- Speaking Welsh (though Welsh or English-speaking applicants are encouraged).
Additional Key Attributes
You’ll thrive if you have:
- Experience working across third-party fault resolution groups.
- Strong modelling and communication skills for technical issues.
- Proven initiative in stakeholder influence and change management.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential Criteria
📚 Degree level or equivalent experience. 📝 Continual Professional Development evidence. 🗺 Deep working knowledge of multiple systems, platforms, and hardware (through experience & training). 🔒 Experience & understanding of NHS Wales/LHB ICT standards. 📎 Relevant teaching qualification (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training—formerly PTRLS).
Desirable Criteria
▶ Certifications such as:
- Microsoft (MCSE, MCSP).
- ITIL Foundation. ▶ Knowledge in application management or system administration. ▶ Membership of professional bodies (SDI, BCS, FedIP). ✅ Awareness of NHS IT security policies & procedures.

Healthcare/Organisational Support: 🏥 Experience in ICT support under negotiated service-level agreements (SLAs) in hospitals or large organisations.
Problem Solving & Change Management: 🧹 Proven track record in identifying and resolving technical/data issues. 🌱 Participation in system redesign/revised processes and change initiatives.
Supervision Experience: 👥 Experience supervising staff.
