Operational Cyber Software Engineer

Salary: Up to £85,000 + Excellent Benefits
Location: Gloucester, Manchester or London (Onsite)
Security Clearance: Must be eligible for Developed Vetting (DV)

We're supporting a leading organisation delivering some of the UK's most complex and mission-critical cyber programmes. This is an opportunity for experienced Software Engineers to work on cutting-edge operational cyber challenges, developing capabilities that directly support national security.

You'll join a highly technical engineering team specialising in secure software development, vulnerability research and high-assurance systems, working alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, developing and testing secure, high-assurance software solutions.
  • Building robust applications with security embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Working across multiple operating systems, languages and technologies.
  • Conducting peer reviews and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Applying modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing and secure development methodologies.
  • Researching emerging technologies and identifying potential security risks.

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have experience with:

  • Software engineering using C++, Java or C#
  • Scripting or automation using Python, JavaScript, PowerShell or similar
  • Secure software development and software engineering best practices
  • Source control, debugging, testing and continuous integration
  • Linux and/or Windows operating systems
  • Strong understanding of core computer science principles
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within highly collaborative engineering teams

Previous experience within cyber security is beneficial but not essential—strong software engineers with an interest in security are encouraged to apply.
