Cyclotron Engineer – Leading-Edge Clinical Imaging Centre, West London
We’re seeking an experienced Cyclotron Engineer to join our small, specialist team at our state-of-the-art clinical imaging centre in Hammersmith, West London.
In this pivotal role, you will support the reliable operation of our two on-site cyclotrons, critical for producing short-lived ¹¹C and ¹⁸F isotopes that power our TR and DPS studies.
You’ll bring deep technical expertise and sound engineering judgement, working with significant autonomy while collaborating closely with colleagues and stakeholders who rely on your capability, insight, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee cyclotron operations, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and performance optimisation.
- Deliver risk management and failure prevention across systems.
- Maintain cyclotrons and associated systems, including the Radionuclide Delivery System (RNDS) and Air Compressing Station (ACS).
- Work with high-vacuum systems, RF systems, high-voltage power supplies, and mechanical assemblies.
- Ensure full radiation safety, compliance, and ALARP adherence.
- Maintain documentation, SOP control, and spare-parts inventory.
- Support continuous improvement, technical development, and skills training within the team.

About You
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience in PET cyclotron operation and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of cyclotron physics, radionuclide production, and targetry.
- Excellent communication skills and a flexible, proactive approach.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, prioritise, and deliver process improvements.
- Experience of working within the relevant radiation safety guidelines.
Practical Details
- This role includes rotating night-shift coverage and out-of-hours engineering support.
