CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist

Consultant Child and Young People Psychiatrist

Location: Emerald Place Clinic

Join Emerald Place Clinic as a Consultant Child and Young People Psychiatrist and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people aged 13–18 experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

About the Role

At the heart of a 12-bed General Adolescent Inpatient Unit, you will provide evidence-based psychiatric care—delivering, treating, and empowering young people to live safely, independently, and sustainably. Your work will focus on clinical leadership, risk management, and trauma-informed therapeutic planning, ensuring outstanding standards in psychiatric care.

You’ll collaborate closely with families, multidisciplinary team (MDT) members, and external agencies to develop tailored treatment programmes that address the unique challenges faced by young people—including behavioural patterns, safeguarding issues, and complex psychological distress.

This is an opportunity to work within a reliable team and contribute to high-quality, confidential care for those managing some of society’s most vulnerable and challenging situations.

Team Structure & Collaborative Dynamics

The care model is shaped by regular collaboration across disciplines:

  • Psychologists & Psychotherapists
  • Nurses & Mental Health Practitioners
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Social Workers (ensuring safeguarding and systemic support)
  • Family Therapists & Educational Leads (districts and local schools)
  • Junior Doctors (e.g., Specialist Doctors/RMOs for after-hours support)

Responsibilities & Key Duties

Clinical Duties
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments, accurate diagnosis, and seamlessly coordinated treatment planning in partnership with the MDT.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medication adhering to NICE guidelines and national best practice.
  • Lead ward rounds, CPA reviews, and Mental Health Act assessments with compassion and thoroughness.
  • Engage families, carers, CMHTs, social care, and education providers to create consistent therapeutic continuity.
  • Provide clinical leadership for complex cases, safeguarding concerns, and safeguarding emergencies.
  • Contribute to specialist fields such as eating disorder management, mental health recovery strategies, and therapeutic relapse prevention.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
