The Opportunity
The Data Accountant is a 12-month fixed-term contract role within the Record-to-Report (RTR) function of Global Finance Services (GFS), located in Manchester.
This position sits within the RTR function across GFS, ensuring the integrity, quality, and continuous improvement of financial data and controls in the GFS operating model while embedding AI tools and data-driven practices. The role demands an analytical approach to financial operations balanced by forward-thinking responsibilities to enhance processes through innovation.
About the Role
We are seeking a finance professional with RTR experience, deep expertise in financial controls, and the technical capability to design and own a self-service reporting suite. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Practical experience in period-end-close and SOX compliance
- Fluency in Power BI and AI tools
- Ability to work across multiple entities, communicate findings, and interface with CFO-level stakeholders
- The ability to turn complex financial data into actionable insights
Role Responsibilities
Controls and Record-to-Report (RTR)
- Complete and report on SOX journal testing (RTR-2.6.1), document findings, and lead remediation efforts.
- Maintain the GFS controls framework, including CSA program and control self-assessments.
- Monitor reconciliation completion and quality during month-end and provide final status to GFS leadership.
- Collaborate with Intelligent Enterprises to ensure ARCS master data accuracy and optimize reconciliation automation.
- Identify and escalate data integrity issues—from supplier/customer master data errors—to Revenue ThuMike Hendon financial reporting.
- Support internal and external audits by delivering clean, well-documented data extracts and related evidence.
Variance Reporting and Analytics
- Develop and own the GFS variance reporting suite for monthly and quarterly P&L and Balance Sheet cycles, maintained independently by GFS accountants.
- Create self-refreshing month-over-month P&L packs with commentary-supported exception frameworks.
- Produce Balance Sheet packets based on monthly trends with ageing analysis and reconciliation status.
- Develop quarterly trend analysis with year-on-year P&L and Balance Sheet comparisons for GFS executive-level reporting.
- Design self-service Power BI/Power Query solutions requiring zero manual intervention by finance teams.
- Develop data dictionaries and refresh guides for finance users—minimizing dependency on technical support.
- Lead the underlying data model, ensuring stable connections to Oracle Fusion and Maconomy, version control, and documentation.
- Establish and enforce reporting data standards—naming conventions, hierarchies, currency treatment, and intercompany eliminations.
- Iterate reports based on reorganizations, operating model changes, or new entities.
- Implement exception and threshold alerts in the reporting suite to highlight material movements automatically.

GFS Performance Reporting
- Develop and maintain operational KPI dashboards covering reconciliation timeliness, SLA performance, and open-item ageing.
- Track and update GFS optimisation and improvement inisis progress.
- Use SQL and AI-assisted tools to identify data anomalies, support ad hoc finance inquiries, and drive analysis.
- Maintain SOPs and process maps for all reporting deliverables.
Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with GFS teams to design and implement automated systems and improve processes.
- Contribute to embedding AI in finance operations, by identifying use cases and championing adoption.
- Manage ServiceNow task queues during month-end to ensure smooth, efficient execution.
- Champion a culture of accountability and quality across RTR and GFS.
Cross-Functional Working
- Partner with Master Data Lead on protecting financial integrity (phase of supply the customer tech transfer chains and payment runs).
- Work with divisional finance to resolve queries and communicate process changes transparently.

What We’re Looking for in You
Part Qualified Accountant or Finance Degree
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent, or a finance degree with hands-on professional experience.
**Technical /
Functional / Behavioural Skills**
- RTR knowledge, especially shared services environment
- P&L / Balance Sheet variance accounting
- SOX compliance and reconciliation tools
- Oracle Fusion or Maconomy (with broader ERP familiarity welcomed)
- Advanced Excel: Power Query, Pivot Tables, formulas
- Self-service reporting proficiency: Power BI / Excel data-modeling and visualisations for non-technical users
- SQL experience: querying and analysing financial datasets independently
- AI fluency: deploy AI assistants like Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini for tasks beyond extictions lending variance analysis
