About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Analyst to join our central Data Science & Analytics Team, based in London, Dundee, or Glasgow. This pivotal role involves working across our well-known brands such as FindMyPast, British Newspaper Archive, and others, supporting our ongoing digital transformation efforts. The successful candidate will provide advanced analytical expertise, standardize best practices, and promote data literacy across various teams including Product, Editorial, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, and Technology. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence strategic decisions, improve operational efficiency, and drive revenue growth through data insights. It also presents a pathway for career advancement into senior individual contributor or line management roles. The role benefits from dedicated days for professional development, including attending industry conferences and events.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in SQL coding and data querying
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Looker
- Experience with data modeling in dbt
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply complex techniques for decision support
- Experience in contributing insights to strategic planning and operational improvements
- Ability to coach and develop junior analysts
- Knowledge of enterprise data standards and data architecture
- Desirable: Snowflake data warehouse experience
- Desirable: Python programming skills
Responsibilities
- Provide analytical leadership ensuring outputs meet high standards of accuracy, clarity, and commercial relevance
- Create and deliver insights and models that lead to measurable improvements in revenue, efficiency, and customer experience
- Maintain and evolve KPI frameworks, ensuring consistency and alignment across the organization
- Translate complex data findings into actionable insights, influencing decision-making processes
- Standardize analytical processes and develop the capability of the analytics team to enhance analytical maturity
- Identify opportunities for methodological improvements, tooling, and automation to optimize analytical workflows
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure clarity and mutual understanding of analytical outputs
- Support strategic initiatives through evidence-based analysis and contribute to continuous improvement of analytical practices
