The DVSA has an exciting new opportunity to join our existing team in the Digital and Data directorate. Job Description

The post holder will work effectively within a geographically dispersed team owning the day-to-day delivery of robust, timely and insightful Data Analysis and reporting that enables key stakeholders to make informed decisions based on sound evidence and recommendations.

The post holder works alongside analysts in designing, developing and delivering high quality data, insight and visualisations to key business stakeholders across the business.

The post holder will develop familiarity with a host of different systems and is responsible for delivering a range of daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc dashboards, data models and reports. They will also proactively identify and investigate trends, anomalies and early warning signs, communicating with stakeholders at all levels across the business.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Aren’t Limited To

  • Ensure the production of new, regular and ad-hoc Data Analysis reports, owning the relevant datasets and model(s) and the process for developing and maintaining them.
  • Establish requirements to identify the who, what and why.
  • Analyse and interrogate DVSA’s data to gain a better understanding of the trends and anomalies that affect DVSA’s services.
  • Communicate with stakeholders at various levels, tailoring communication styles and methods accordingly.
  • Provide information and statistical expertise to the Agency to support both business as usual, continuous improvement and project work.
  • Participate in data change governance with other stakeholders.
  • Work with system subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand how business logic is applied within data sources, maintain a data knowledge base detailing the main data tables and elements within the data sources, the associated business rules and any known data quality issues.
  • Advise, contribute and engage in driving the strategy forward by ensuring existing and new systems and reports continue to deliver business requirements.

Person specification

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Experience of reporting data and solutions using Power BI or another similar visualisation tool allowing you to present recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Working experience of programming language for example SQL, python or R.
  • Being naturally inquisitive with an eye for problem-solving and finding innovative solutions.
  • Great communication skills; being able to articulate to stakeholders at various levels.
  • The ability to advise, contribute and challenge, where necessary.
  • Manage and engage with integrity.
  • Demonstrate leadership as well as collaborating with other managers.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

  • Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
  • Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
  • This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
  • The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
