About The Role
The Principal Data Analyst role is a strategic position within DC Thomson’s central Data Science & Analytics Team, located in London, Dundee, or Glasgow. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple brands and products, providing advanced analytical support to various departments including Product, Editorial, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, and Technology. The successful candidate will be instrumental in strengthening analytical capabilities, standardizing best practices, and promoting data literacy across teams. This role is pivotal in driving insights that influence revenue growth, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making. It is designed for an individual with a passion for data, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex data findings into actionable business insights. The role also offers opportunities for career progression into senior individual contributor or line management positions, along with dedicated days for professional development through conferences and industry events.

Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in SQL coding language
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Looker
- Knowledge of data modeling using dbt
- Proven experience in conducting complex analytical activities and delivering high-quality insights
- Ability to contribute to strategic planning and support evidence-based decision making
- Experience coaching and developing analysts
- Familiarity with enterprise data models and standards
Desirable:
- Snowflake data warehouse experience or exposure
- Python programming language skills
Responsibilities
- Provide analytical leadership ensuring outputs meet accuracy, clarity, and commercial relevance standards
- Develop and deliver insights and models that lead to measurable improvements in revenue, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- Maintain and evolve KPI frameworks to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable insights, influencing decision-making and stakeholder alignment
- Standardize analytical processes and develop team capabilities to enhance analytical maturity
- Identify and implement improvements in analytical methodologies, tools, and automation processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build strong relationships and ensure clarity of analytical outputs
- Support and coach analysts, fostering skills development and best practices within the team
- Stay updated with industry trends and explore innovative analytical techniques to improve insight delivery
