Data Analyst – Insurance

Job Location: Frimley, Surrey – Hybrid, 1 to 2 days in the office (Team get-togethers on a Tuesday and Wednesday). Flexible working arrangements available—contact your recruiter for details.

Salary: Circa £40,000 (dependent on experience)

Role Description

In this role, you will support the end-to-end data collection, validation, and reporting process using the risk management system to underpin the purchase of group insurance programmes. Acting as the primary bridge between our risk management system service provider and the Group Insurable Risk team, you will ensure data accuracy, system integrity, and system maintenance.

A key focus is analysing and validating data inputs/outputs, including creating, maintaining, and verifying reports for insurers, senior management, and stakeholders.


Core Duties

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the risk management system, providing guidance to Group Insurable Risk, business data collectors, and third-party vendors
  • Analyse company exposure data, claims, and premiums to identify trends, anomalies, and variances, presenting findings clearly
  • Develop and deliver dashboards, reports, and automated reporting solutions for business teams
  • Support the maintenance and refinement of insurance premium allocation models, analysing key drivers and running "what-if" scenario analysis for budgeting
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy within risk management systems
  • Provide support and guidance to:
    • Colleagues in Group Insurable Risk
    • Business data collectors
    • External service providers
  • Collaborate closely with the risk management system service provider to ensure the platform is supported, maintained, and continuously improved

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience managing risk management information systems (especially for insurance policy management and data collection) – desirable
  • Proactive mindset with a strong drive for continuous improvement
  • Advanced reporting capability, particularly using Power BI
  • Proven analytical skills, including:
    • Expertise in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data manipulation)
    • Ability to compare, contrast, and combine diverse datasets
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum Grade C/5)
  • Basic understanding of general insurance principles – desirable

About the Group Insurable Risk Team

This role sits within Group Insurable Risk (GIR) under Finance at headquarters. Reporting into the Head of Business Support, you’ll work within a team of 3, as part of a wider team of 16. GIR holds global accountability for insurance purchases within BAE Systems, supported by external insurance brokers and consultants.

GIR provides specialist insights on insurance risk, but this role focuses on the practical management and maintenance of the risk management systems—including claims, policies, premiums, and exposure data collection. The system has over 50 users, ranging from business teams to external providers.
