About The Role
The Principal Data Analyst role is a pivotal position within DC Thomson’s central Data Science & Analytics Team, located in London, Dundee, or Glasgow. The successful candidate will work across multiple brands and products, providing advanced analytical support to departments such as Product, Editorial, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, and Technology. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence business outcomes through data insights, ensuring that analytics are aligned with strategic objectives and operational needs. As a senior member of the team, the Principal Data Analyst will lead analytics initiatives, standardize best practices, and foster data literacy across the organization. The role also provides pathways for career progression into senior individual contributor or line management positions, with dedicated time allocated for professional development through conferences and industry events.

Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in SQL coding language
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Looker
- Knowledge of data modeling in dbt
- Proven experience in analytical activities with complex techniques to support decision-making
- Ability to contribute insights to strategic planning and evidence-based decisions
- Experience coaching analysts and supporting skills development
- Familiarity with enterprise data models and standards
- Desirable: Snowflake data warehouse experience or exposure
- Desirable: Python programming language skills
Responsibilities
- Ensure the accuracy, clarity, and commercial relevance of analytical outputs, providing leadership in quality assurance
- Produce insightful analysis and models that lead to measurable improvements in revenue, efficiency, or customer satisfaction
- Maintain and evolve KPI frameworks to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization
- Translate complex data findings into actionable insights, influencing decision-making processes and securing stakeholder buy-in
- Standardize analytical processes and develop the capability of analysts to build analytical maturity within the organization
- Identify opportunities to enhance analytical methodologies, tooling, and automation to improve insight delivery
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring clarity and mutual understanding of analytical outputs
- Contribute to strategic planning by providing evidence-based insights and recommendations
- Support the development of analytical skills within the team through coaching and mentorship
