About the role

As a Data Analytics Manager, you will analyse complex business problems, develop data-driven solutions, and maintain a suite of analytical models and code that enable Tesco to understand and optimise workload across stores. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business, you will design, develop, and enhance productivity models that support operational decision-making and drive efficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring workload is accurately represented across multiple business areas, continuously maintaining and improving the underlying analytical frameworks, data processes, and code that power Tesco's Productivity Models. Through your insights and expertise, you will help the business make informed decisions that improve both colleague experience and operational performance.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading complex analytics and productivity projects from concept through to implementation, review and continuous improvement.
  • Partnering with operational and business teams to understand processes, challenges and opportunities, translating requirements into scalable analytical solutions.
  • Developing, maintaining and enhancing the code, data pipelines and analytical models that underpin Tesco’s Productivity Models.
  • Translating complex business requirements into efficient, robust and well-documented SQL code and automated processes.
  • Extracting, validating, transforming and managing data from multiple sources to deliver accurate and actionable insights.
  • Maintaining a library of SQL code, procedures and documentation, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable and easy to support.
  • Collaborating with Product Owners and stakeholders to shape requirements, define solutions and deliver business value through to implementation.
  • Creating and maintaining clear documentation for all data assets, methodologies and derived datasets.
  • Designing and executing testing and validation processes to ensure data quality, model accuracy and solution integrity.
  • Assessing the operational and financial impact of initiatives, supporting the development of business cases and recommendations.
  • Building, trialling and refining operating models and productivity solutions to support effective business decision-making.
  • Managing and influencing stakeholders across multiple functions and levels, providing clear communication and recommendations.
  • Responding effectively to changing business priorities, adapting plans and maintaining delivery against key objectives.
  • Developing advanced analytical models and insights to support improvements in processes, systems and operating models.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in productivity analytics, sharing knowledge, best practice and industry awareness across the team.
  • Supporting a positive, collaborative and inclusive team culture, contributing to team events, knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement activities.
  • Taking ownership of personal development, working with your manager to define objectives, build capability and achieve career goals.

You will need

  • Proven experience writing and maintaining production-quality SQL code, with strong attention to performance, scalability, accuracy and documentation.
  • Advanced analytical and technical skills, including Excel, VBA and Power Apps, with the ability to automate processes and build effective business solutions.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, with the ability to translate operational challenges into data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, engage stakeholders and influence decision-making across multiple functions and levels of seniority.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering against clear objectives, with the ability to develop, manage and execute structured project plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience turning complex business requirements into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts and insights clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams to deliver business improvements and measurable outcomes.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond effectively to changing business needs and priorities.
