Data Architect - Strategy & Architecture (Permanent)
Grade & Salary
Grade 7 – £66,627 – £85,845 (Consultation grade, subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review)
Working Arrangements
36.5 hours per week

About the Role
Our organisation is committed to becoming a data-driven institution. This role will be pivotal in shaping our data strategy, architecture, and governance frameworks, ensuring data assets deliver maximum value to our services and citizens.
As the Data Architect, you will:
- Develop and implement enterprise-wide data architectures across business lines
- Design scalable data platforms using Microsoft Fabric and modern data lake/ lakehouse patterns
- Establish master data management and single view approaches for trusted organisational data
- Define and execute data governance, quality, and integration strategies
- Collaborate with stakeholders across teams, services, and external partners
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Governance
- Lead the creation and implementation of a data strategy aligned with organisational objectives
- Define and enact a data governance model to ensure compliance and accountability
Data Operating & Enterprise Architecture
- Design data operating models integrating Digital & Technology Services and Data & Insight functions
- Develop cross-functional alignment for consistent data structures and standards
Technical Design & Architecture
- Microsoft Fabric Architecture:
- Design scalable data platforms leveraging OneLake, lakehouse patterns, and medallion models
- Implement Azure Data Services, Power BI, Fabric, and SQL Server architectures
- Data Modelling and Information Architecture:
- Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models
- Ensure operational and analytical data consistency
- Integration & Data Flow:
- Streamline cross-system data flows for end-to-end visibility and reduced fragmentation

Master Data & Systems Harmony
- Improve data consistency and trust through master data management and single view solutions
- Establish data quality frameworks guaranteeing accuracy and reliability
Emerging Technology & Analytics
- Support AI/analytics architecture, adhering to responsible AI governance and risk frameworks
- Stay ahead of data trends, tools, and best practices
Collaborative Leadership
- Partner with service areas, analysts, and technical teams to align solutions with business needs
- Engage Heads of Service and vendors in technical design work
- Promote an open, collaborative, and driven-by-value data culture

- Technical Proficiency:
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Fabric, Power BI, SQL Server
- Data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical), enterprise architecture, integration
