Halfords Data Architect – Technology Architecture
About Us
Halfords is shaping the future of motoring and cycling, seeking cocreators: individuals driven to make a real impact, take ownership, and contribute to an evolving organisation.
Technology is at a transformative stage, aligning foundations and delivery with commercial and customer outcomes, prioritising practical, scalable solutions.
This role operates under a hybrid model, requiring a 3 working days per week presence at the support centre (Redditch, West Midlands).
About the Role
As Data Architect, you’ll spearhead Halfords’ enterprise data strategy—a brand-new opportunity to define, govern, and innovate data architecture in collaboration with pivotal systems such as Microsoft Fabric, Data Lake, Databricks, Informatica MDM, and Salesforce Data Cloud.
Your leadership ensures consistent architectural standards and governance across analytical, operational, and customer-centric initiatives, including those under development and those as yet only shaped by vision.
Core Focus:
- Ownership of an end-to-end data architecture strategy
- Chairmanship of the Data Design Authority
- Curatorial direction over data modelling, integration, governance, and application
Facilitate the build-up of future-focused data foundations, rather than compromising on existing structures.
Day-to-Day Impact:
- Influence strategic decisions via authoritative guidance, ensuring alignment across:
- Microsoft Azure platforms (Fabric, Data Lake, Databricks)
- MDM/Event-Driven Data Cloud platforms (Informatica, Salesforce)
- Embed standards into practice—working with the Director of Data & Analytics, Platform Architect – Data, and Head of Data Governance
- Embed evolving DataOps, automation, and DevOps pipelines into the enterprise

This role intersects enterprise leadership and hands-on practice, defining a modern, fit-for-purpose data estate that supports commercial imperatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and own the enterprise data architecture strategy, ensuring coherence over analytics, operational, and customer data domains
• Chair and lead the Data Design Authority—architectural governance, assurance, and risk management for data-grounded decision-making
• Provide guardrails and technical direction to teams, aligning solutions across:
- Microsoft Fabric
- Cloud data lakes
- Databricks
- Informatica MDM
- Salesforce Data Cloud
- Guarding against siloed decisions and ensuring scalable output
• Lead design and governance for key technology/data programmes, fostering exponential growth and cleaner workstreams
• Drive cloud-native, DataOps, and automation first thinking:
- CI/CD approaches
- Enhanced resilience, scalability, and delivery velocity
• Embed visibility and clarity in enterprise data patterns with compliance safeguards:
- Security, privacy, and regulatory adherence
• Line-manage the Platform Architect – Data, collaborating with the Head of Data Governance to ingrain best practices.
About You
- Proven experience: Shaying data architecture in large-scale, multi-domain organisations with a robust hands-on Azure Fabric, Databricks, and Data Lake footprint.
- Architectural governance leadership: Fostering structure in complex design authorities and executing blueprints aligned to enterprise objectives.
- Expertise: Data modelling, enterprise integration (including MDM and CDP frameworks), and higher-level stakeholder communication.
