Data Architect (Contractor)
Data Architect (Contractor) – Unified Music Industry Data Platform
About the Role
Our partner is seeking a Data Architect (Contractor) based in the United Kingdom for a high-impact, short-term contract. This role focuses on designing and delivering a unified BigQuery data warehouse that integrates fragmented music industry datasets (revenue, royalties, audience, operational data) into a coherent, queryable system.
You will define the architecture for seamless system integration, addressing entity resolution, data modeling, and governance across inconsistent sources while collaborating with engineers, stakeholders, and executives. Ideal candidates enjoy tackling complex integration challenges at scale in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
Accountabilities
- Own the data warehouse architecture in BigQuery, including:
- Schema design, transformation layers, semantic conventions, and optimised access patterns.
- Data integration (entity resolution, aggregation, reconciliation) across multiple external platforms with varying identifiers/data formats.
- Define business metrics, source-of-truth rules, and exception handling frameworks in collaboration with:
- Finance, marketing, operations, and executive stakeholders.
- Lead a small team of engineers/contractors to build/pipeline data transformations, analytical datasets, and system components.
- Establish data quality, testing, observability, and monitoring standards to ensure reliability and stakeholder trust.
- Evaluate and select tools (e.g., dbt, Dataform, SQLMesh) by weighing trade-offs against system needs.
- Translate business requirements into scalable data models, enforcing architectural consistency for downstream analytics and reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
