Data Architect

About The Job

We are pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a Data Architect to join our Data Architecture TSG team. This role is offered as a Full-Time Employee with the benefit of hybrid working arrangements.

Who We Are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK’s largest and longest-established pension funds.

Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and a unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The Role

The core purpose of the Data Architect role is to provide architectural leadership across Railpen’s data ecosystem, shaping the design, governance, and evolution of data platforms supporting Member Services, Finance, and Pension Investment Management (PIM).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and governing enterprise data architecture standards, including modelling approaches, integration patterns, and platform design
  • Ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to Railpen’s wider technology and AI strategy
  • Working with investment data capabilities, requiring comfort with concepts such as securities, holdings, prices, transactions, valuations, benchmarks, performance, risk or reference data
  • Translating business requirements into robust, scalable data models and platform designs

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
