Data Architecture Developer

Salary: £48,183–£50,636 per annum (depending on skills and experience), plus benefits Location: Canary Wharf, London (Hybrid working) Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM)

The Role

As a Data Architecture Developer, you’ll design, develop, and maintain the systems that enable high-quality, reliable data across the organisation. Collaborating closely with IT, research, and business teams, you’ll:

  • Support data integration, modelling, warehousing, and reporting, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Contribute to business intelligence (BI) solutions, helping teams derive operational and strategic insights from data.
  • Develop strategies to turn raw data into actionable insights for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimise database objects (tables, indexes) to enhance performance and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain stored procedures, user-defined functions, and complex queries (including UNION, MERGE, CTEs, CROSS APPLY, PIVOT/UNPIVOT, and window functions like RANK(), OVER(), and PARTITION BY).
  • Tune and optimise SQL queries for efficiency.
  • Build and maintain data models in Power BI, leveraging DAX, and ensure alignment with business reporting needs.
  • Integrate structured and semi-structured data (e.g., SQL databases, Excel, APIs) using SSIS.
  • Automate data processes with VBA and ensure data quality through monitoring and remediation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop feature-fit solutions.

Technical Requirements

  • Advanced T-SQL expertise, with hands-on experience in:
    • Complex query techniques (e.g., UNION, MERGE, CTEs, CROSS APPLY, PIVOT/UNPIVOT)
    • Window functions (RANK, OVER, PARTITION BY)
    • Query tuning and performance optimisation
  • Ability to develop and manage stored procedures, user-defined functions
  • Deep knowledge of data modelling in BI, with a focus on reporting accuracy and efficiency
  • Experience designing database objects (tables, indexes)
  • Proficiency in Power BI, including data modelling and DAX, with experience reporting from SQL Server and SSAS Tabular models
  • Practical experience with SSIS for data integration
  • Strong Excel skills, with experience using VBA for automation, data manipulation, and process improvements
  • Commitment to identifying and resolving data quality issues, and implementing monitoring and improvement solutions

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric for modern data platform development
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts and data mining techniques
