Senior Clinical Coding Professional: Head of Data Assurance Unit & Clinical Coding Training Lead
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join University Hospitals Dorset at a pivotal stage in the development of our Health Information Management Service.
As Head of Data Assurance Unit and Clinical Coding Training Lead, you will provide senior leadership for clinical coding education, workforce capability, quality assurance, and data assurance across the Trust. You will act as the Trust's technical authority for clinical coding training and development, helping to strengthen coding quality, documentation standards, and organisational assurance.
A core aspect of the role involves establishing and developing a Clinical Coding Training Academy, creating structured learning pathways, supporting professional accreditation, and developing future talent through innovative education programmes. You will work closely with operational, clinical and digital colleagues, using assurance intelligence, audit outcomes, and workforce insight to deliver targeted improvement initiatives, strengthen coding capability, and support income assurance.
We are seeking an experienced, qualified clinical coding professional with a strong background in education and workforce development, alongside the ability to influence, inspire, and lead improvement across complex healthcare organisations—particularly those seeking growth through development and STP-led change.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
