Data Business Analyst
Data Business Analyst – Dartford or Manchester
At Laing O’Rourke, we’re transforming how we use data to drive smarter decisions and better outcomes. We’re looking for a Data Business Analyst to bridge business needs with our AI, Data & Analytics delivery ecosystem.
This is a business-facing role where you’ll partner with senior stakeholders to ensure data initiatives are clearly defined, aligned to business priorities, and delivered effectively.
The Opportunity
As a Data Business Analyst, you’ll combine strong business analysis expertise with an understanding of modern data platforms. Acting as a key link between business stakeholders and technical teams, you'll help translate requirements into scalable, value-driven data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end business analysis across data and analytics initiatives, translating business problems into:
- Clear requirements
- Use cases
- Measurable success criteria
- Develop process maps, user journeys, and data flows, ensuring requirements are prioritised based on business value and strategic outcomes
- Work across core data domains, including:
- Data Lakehouse
- Data Engineering
- Architecture
- Power Platform
- Act as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams
- Ensure solutions are scalable, reusable and aligned to data governance and architectural standards
- Maintain oversight of delivery, including:
- Scope
- Timelines
- Dependencies
- Expected outcomes
- Proactively identify risks, blockers and delays, driving mitigation and escalation where required
- Partner with senior business stakeholders as a trusted advisor, facilitating:
- Workshops
- Requirement sessions
- Governance forums
- Communicate complex data concepts in a clear, outcome-focused way to drive understanding and engagement
- Support a data product approach by:
- Defining KPIs
- Success measures
- Expected business benefits
- Track value realisation post-delivery, ensuring data and analytics solutions are adopted and drive decision-making
- Promote best practice in data governance, including:
- Data usage
- Access
- Stewardship
- Collaboration with data owners and custodians
- Support Power BI and self-service analytics solutions, ensuring outputs are:
- Intuitive
- Well-documented
- Accessible to business users
- Maintain high-quality documentation, including:
- Business requirements
- Data definitions
- Process flows
- Drive continuous improvement across:
- Business analysis practices
- Stakeholder engagement
- Delivery governance

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong Business Analyst experience in data, analytics or digital environments
- Ability to translate between business and technical teams
- Working knowledge of data platforms (e.g. Data Lakehouse, pipelines, modelling)
- Experience with Power BI or similar tools
- Strong stakeholder management, including senior leaders
- Understanding of data governance, quality and lifecycle

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in large-scale data programmes or transformation
- Exposure to AI or advanced analytics
- Agile or hybrid delivery experience
- Basic SQL skills
