Data Business Analyst
Location: Welcome Break Support Centre, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK16 9EZ Salary: Up to £55,000 plus fantastic benefits, bonus scheme & discounts
This role is a hybrid position, offering flexible days spent in the office and flexible working from home. You will need to live within a commutable distance of Newport Pagnell.
About the Role
As a Data Business Analyst at Welcome Break, you will play a vital role in shaping how data is captured, made available, and used across the organisation. Sitting at the centre of our data ecosystem, you’ll partner with business teams across Hotels, Food & Beverage, Retail, Operations, Finance, and Marketing to translate business needs into clear data requirements.
The Data Business Analyst role brings the exciting opportunity to be part of the team building the data capabilities that are enabling better decision-making and enhancing guest experience, operational efficiency, and revenue optimisation at Welcome Break.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders across UK teams as a trusted data advisor.
- Run discovery sessions and workshops to clarify questions and opportunities.
- Translate business needs into:
- Data use cases
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Insight requirements
- Capture business definitions, context, and metric logic in clear documentation.
- Convert requirements into technical specifications, including:
- Source-to-target mappings
- Rules and transformations
- Work with Data Engineers to shape:
- Pipelines
- Integration
- Data models
- Support Agile delivery by:
- Refining the backlog
- Prioritising tasks
- Sprint planning
- Defining acceptance criteria
- Define and maintain KPI and metric definitions for consistency.
- Set and enforce data quality rules, validation criteria, and operational checks.
- Champion data stewardship, metadata, and governance best practices.
- Collaborate with BI/analytics teams to ensure data products satisfy user needs.
- Support:
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Data validation
- Troubleshooting of new datasets and pipelines
- Enable self-service access by improving:
- Usability of data assets
- Accessibility of analytical tools
- Identify opportunities to drive improvements in:
- Revenue
- Operational efficiency
- Guest experience
- Improve standards in:
- Requirements documentation
- Testing
- Delivery processes
- Contribute to a scalable, modern data platform through reusable standards and assets.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a:
- Data Business Analyst
- Business Analyst
- Comparable data-focused role
- Domain expertise in:
- Hospitality/retail
- Finance & commercial analytics
- Strong experience in:
- Gathering, documenting, and managing business and data requirements
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with:
- Business stakeholders
- Technical teams
- Deliver data-driven solutions
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and delivery frameworks.
- Excellent:
- Stakeholder management
- Communication & facilitation skills
- Knowledge of:
- Data governance
- Metadata management
- Data stewardship principles
Desirable Skills
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI
- Technical depth in:
- Data governance & cataloguing
- Azure/cloud platforms
- Process expertise in:
- Data product thinking
- Master Data Management (MDM)
- Change management & enablement
