Data Center Engineer
Technical Operative 2 - Datacentre Engineer
Join a leading independent technology and services provider as a Datacentre Engineer in our Hatfield Integration Centre.
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Datacentre Engineer with a strong mechanical and technical background to support the customisation and deployment of server/enterprise equipment within high-performance and datacentre environments.
The ideal candidate must have:
- Hands-on experience working in datacentres
- A commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction
This role will involve close collaboration with operational, consultancy, and infrastructure teams.
Location
Hatfield, AL10 9TW
Rate
- Hourly rate, in-scope IR35: £14.90 (via PAYE) OR £19.33 (via Hays Approved Umbrella Company)
Key Responsibilities
- Rack and stack active network hardware including switches, routers, and servers
- Understand and follow patching schedules/cut sheets
- Install power and data connection cables in server and networking racks
- Provide on-site support to remote network and systems administrators per instructions
- Read and adhere to rack elevation diagrams
- Apply basic IP addressing under guidance
- Install and configure UPS systems (desirable)
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and cross-functional teams to ensure:
- Timely deployments
- Successful project outcomes
- Follow:
- All safety procedures
- Industry standards
- Environmental guidelines

Key Requirements
- Extensive experience with working in a datacentre environment
- Strong structured cabling knowledge
- Ability to install and test fibre optic cables
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- High attention to detail
- Comfortable with hands-on technical work
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certification (desirable but not compulsory)
