Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT)
About the Role
As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will stage, set up, and perform hardware deployments across Microsoft’s global infrastructure of over 200 data centres in 32 countries. You will carry out the following:
- Hardware deployment, troubleshooting, and diagnostics
- Hardware decommissioning for refreshes following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Development of mentoring skills and guidance for peers
- Hands-on experience with security, data management, and data centre processes

Responsibilities
- Performs diagnostics, troubleshooting, and component replacement to resolve issues with minimal customer or business disruption
- Ensures post-execution quality checks, verifying compliance with safety protocols, cabling standards, and deployment tasks
- Decommissions hardware for refreshes and minor upgrades (e.g., RAM replacements) following best practices, with minimal guidance
- Follows incident reporting protocols, escalating issues to DCT Leads, technologists, and management where needed
- Supports and mentors junior technicians by guiding them through complex procedures
- Completes required role-aligned training, shadowing experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience
- Maintains a collaborative and problem-solving team culture through open communication, participation in meetings, and project awareness
- Demonstrates ownership of workload quality, accountability for operational reliability, and adherence to Microsoft data centre service standards
- Upholds the company’s values and culture
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma/equivalent, or completion of qualifications assessed at equivalent level
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
- Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology

Preferred
- Able to perform complex IT tasks, including server preparation and diagnostics
- Certifications achievable: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC)
Background Check Requirements
Must meet Microsoft and client/legal security screening standards—including:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check (obligatory at hire, critical role, and thereafter every 2 years)
- Data Centre ATR-B & ATR-C compliance
Pay & Benefits
- ATR-B Base Compensation (UK): £34,400–£43,300 per year
- ATR-C Base Compensation (UK): £36,300–£50,100 per year
- Eligible for additional benefits and compensation
