We are seeking a multi-skilled Data Centre Engineer to join our team in Acton, West London, where you will provide critical 24x7x365 Data Centre services to a prestigious International Financial client.


Responsibilities

The Data Centre Engineer role requires:

  • Working in a 24x7x365 shift pattern (4 days on, 4 days off; 4 nights on, 4 nights off).
  • Managing change control processes to ensure smooth IT operations.
  • Handling incident management and resolution to minimise downtime.
  • Tracking and managing Assets within the Data Centre environment.
  • Supervising and overseeing escort duties for third-party vendors.
  • Planning, implementing, and decommissioning IT hardware installations, adhering to strict Data Centre standards.
  • Organising the planning and removal of network hardware and structured cabling.
  • Updating all necessary documentation and inventories.
  • Completing service requests within agreed SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
  • Ensuring compliance with:
    • ONNEC’s and Client Health & Safety procedures
    • Manufacturers’, ONNEC’s, and Clients’ Quality Standards
    • Client Support Services’ approved processes
    • Data Centre security procedures

Key Task Areas

  • Maintenance and governance of Data Centre toolsets for support and management.
  • Closely working with facilities providers to maximise energy efficiency savings.
  • Ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the Data Centre, including installations, decommissions, changes, and maintenance.
  • Leading Data Centre-related service improvement projects.
  • Configuring basic server systems (e.g., iDRAC, iLO).
  • Conducting fault finding and escalation as required.
  • Carrying out racking, stacking, moves, changes, decommissioning, and patching.
  • Overseeing complex inter-rack and inter-room cable infrastructure to ensure stability for IT infrastructure and desktop connectivity.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in working in high-risk environments and Data Centres.
  • Familiarity with DCIM (Data Centre Infrastructure Management) tools and standards (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or Remedy (desirable).
  • A strong attention to detail and proactive approach.
  • Sound knowledge of Infrastructure Technologies & Networking Concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Helpdesk/Service Delivery applications.
  • A reliable, self-motivated individual who thrives as part of a team player.
  • The ability to work under pressure and independently.
  • Flexibility to adapt to shift-based working requirements.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills across all levels.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
  • Direct experience in a similar data centre or facility operations role (mandatory).
