Data Centre Operations Technician

Join us as a Data Centre Operations Technician and contribute to the smooth operation of our mission-critical infrastructure. This role involves supporting the day-to-day performance, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data centre hardware and systems. Working in a 24x7 shift-based environment, the technician will engage with a wide range of technologies and platforms to ensure optimal uptime and reliability across our IT estate.

About the Role

Location: Northolt

The purpose of this role is to effectively monitor and maintain the bank’s critical technology infrastructure and to resolve more complex technical issues whilst minimising disruption to operations.


Responsibilities

Accountabilities

  • Provide technical support for the service management function to resolve complex issues for a specific client or group of clients.
  • Develop the support model and service offering to improve service delivery to customers and stakeholders.
  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks on hardware and software, and utilise monitoring tools/metrics to identify, prevent, and address potential issues while ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Maintain a knowledge base containing detailed documentation of resolved cases to enable future reference, self-service, and knowledge sharing.
  • Analyse system logs, error messages, and user reports to identify root causes of hardware, software, and network issues, and resolve these by fixing or replacing faulty components, reinstalling software, or applying configuration changes.
  • Address automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, resilience, business continuity management, front-office support, and stakeholder management requirements.
  • Identify and remediate service-impacting risks or escalate issues through appropriate processes.
  • Proactively assess support activities, implementing automations where suitable to maintain stability and deliver operational efficiency.
  • Actively tune monitoring tools, thresholds, and alerting systems to ensure timely issue recognition.

Requirements

To excel in this Data Centre Operations Technician role, success will depend on demonstration of the following:

Critical Experience and Skills

  • A strong understanding of multiple hardware platforms and IT infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Storage and SAN components, Unix and Windows (Wintel) computing platforms.
  • Experience with networking systems, including emerging distributed systems and data centre infrastructure technologies.
  • Basic familiarity with AI co-pilot tools and automation frameworks to facilitate the streamlining of repetitive tasks and optimising daily operations.

Highly Valued Additional Qualities

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing server-level hardware issues.
  • Understanding of change and incident management processes within support environments.
  • Practical exposure to software tools utilised in similar environments, including relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+.
  • Demonstratable experience working in a 24x7 shift-based operational environment.
