Data Centre Operations Technician

Purpose of the Role

To effectively monitor and maintain the bank’s critical technology infrastructure and resolve more complex technical issues while minimising disruption to operations.

Accountabilities

  • Provide technical support for service management to resolve complex issues for specific clients or groups of clients.
  • Develop the support model and service offering to improve customer and stakeholder experiences.
  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks on hardware and software, leveraging monitoring tools/metrics to:
    • Identify potential issues
    • Prevent disruptions
    • Ensure optimal performance
  • Maintain a knowledge base with detailed documentation of resolved cases for:
    • Future reference
    • Self-service opportunities
    • Knowledge sharing
  • Analyse system logs, error messages, and user reports to:
    • Identify root causes of hardware, software, and network issues
    • Provide resolutions via:
      • Fixing or replacing faulty hardware
      • Reinstalling software
      • Applying configuration changes
  • Manage responsibilities including:
    • Automation
    • Monitoring enhancements
    • Capacity management
    • Resiliency
    • Business continuity management
    • Front-office-specific support
    • Stakeholder management
  • Identification and remediation of service-impacting risks or, when necessary, raising issues through appropriate processes.
  • Proactively assess support activities, implementing automations to:
    • Maintain system stability
    • Drive operational efficiency
  • Activate tuning of monitoring tools, thresholds, and alerting to ensure timely issue detection.

Role Overview

Join Barclays as a Data Centre Operations Technician and contribute to the smooth operation of our mission-critical infrastructure. This role supports:

  • Day-to-day performance of data centre hardware and systems
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting in a 24x7 shift-based environment
  • Uptime and reliability across the IT estate

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive understanding of:
    • Multiple hardware platforms
    • IT infrastructure
  • Experience with:
    • Storage & SAN components
    • Unix and WinTeil computing platforms
    • Networking systems
    • Emerging technologies in distributed systems and data centre infrastructure
  • Familiarity with AI co-pilot tools and automation frameworks for optimising operations.
