Data Centre Operator
Data Centre Operator – Gloucester (Barnett Way)
Join Barclays as a Data Centre Operator, where you’ll play a critical role in monitoring and maintaining the bank’s technology infrastructure. Your expertise in hardware, controls, and leadership will ensure the safeguarding of sensitive data and support Barclays’ operational needs.
Critical Note: This is an on-site role operating on a 24x7 shift rotation pattern.
About the Role
The Data Centre Operator ensures the reliability and performance of Barclays’ critical technology infrastructure. Responsibilities include:
- Hardware & Network Maintenance: Overseeing Unix, Wintel, storage, SAN, and networking systems.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving technical issues while adhering to change and incident processes in technical support.
- Risk Mitigation: Collaborating with teams to mitigate operational risks and support business continuity.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively enhancing monitoring tools, automating processes, and driving operational efficiency.
Success depends on strong communication, teamwork, and technical proficiency in high-support environments.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Provide technical support for service management to resolve complex issues for clients or client groups.
- Develop support models and service offerings to enhance customer and stakeholder experience.
- Execute preventative maintenance on hardware/software and utilise monitoring tools to address potential issues early.
- Maintain a knowledge base with documented resolution processes for future reference and knowledge sharing.
- Analyse system logs, error messages, and user reports to identify root causes and implement fixes (e.g., replacing hardware, reinstalling software).
- Improve automation, monitoring, capacity management, and resilience to minimise disruptions.
- Identify and escalate risk and operational issues via appropriate processes.
- Proactively assess support activities, tuning monitoring tools for early detection of issues.

Key Requirements
Essential
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including:
- Storage and SAN components
- Unix and Wintel computing platforms
- Networking systems
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting/repairing server hardware and knowledge of change/incident processes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-team coordination.
Highly Valued Additional Skills
- Relevant IT certifications (e.g., ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Server+).
- Prior experience in 24x7 shift operations within data centres.
- Familiarity with hardware/cable troubleshooting in infrastructure environments.
Assessment Focus
Candidates will be evaluated on:

Location
Gloucester (Barnett Way) – On-site ROM required.
