Data Compliance Consultant

Location: London Role Type: Contract – 3 months Work Setup: Remote (with occasional travel to London annually)

Role Overview

As a Data Compliance Consultant, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our data handling aligns with regulatory standards while driving best-practice governance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical data privacy advice and guidance across Aptia, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, GDPR, PECR and other relevant data protection laws.
  • Conduct and facilitate privacy assessments, including:
    • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
    • Lawfulness, Integrity, and Accountability (LIA) reviews
    • Transparency and Information Assessments (TIAs)
    • Data mapping exercises
    • Maintenance of Records of Processing Activities (RoPA)
  • Identify privacy risks, perform compliance audits, and recommend actionable remediation strategies to strengthen data protection controls.
  • Support Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), privacy complaints, and incident management, including breach reporting where necessary.
  • Design and deliver privacy training and awareness initiatives.
  • Mentor junior team members within the privacy function.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, risk, technology, and business stakeholders to improve privacy governance, address regulatory queries, and align with global data protection trends.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in data privacy, compliance, legal advisory, regulatory advisory, or a related field, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • UK GDPR
    • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
    • Data Protection Act 2018
    • Wider privacy compliance frameworks and cross-border data transfers.
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • Conducting DPIAs, LIAs, TIAs, and data mapping.
    • Maintaining RoPA and managing privacy risk assessments.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, action-oriented guidance for both technical and non-techanical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of driving privacy projects or change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of certifications and frameworks is a plus, including:
    • CIPP/E or equivalent certificates.
    • Exposure to privacy management tools (e.g., OneTrust, Decision Focus).
    • Familiarity with:
      • AI governance principles
      • ISO 27001
      • NIST frameworks
      • DORA compliance
