Bellway is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Group IT team in a newly created role based at our Head Office in Woolsington, Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in shaping how data is structured, managed and used across one of the UK's leading housebuilders.
As Bellway continues to invest in technology, systems and insight, this role will be central to the design, support and ongoing development of our Data Lake and wider data architecture. You will help build robust, scalable data pipelines, improve data quality and support the delivery of trusted information that enables better decision making across the business.
The Role
Reporting to the Group IT Director, you will take responsibility for designing, creating, supporting and maintaining data pipelines from multiple sources into a Microsoft-based Data Lake. Working closely with colleagues across Group IT, FP&A, software development, infrastructure, reporting and external partners, you will translate business needs into reliable, scalable and efficient data solutions.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role with strong stakeholder visibility. You will have the opportunity to influence how Bellway manages and uses data, ensuring our data platforms are well designed, well governed and able to support future business requirements.

We are looking for a confident and technically strong Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges and working closely with stakeholders to deliver practical, high-quality solutions. You will bring strong analytical capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Principal Accountabilities
Pipeline Development
- The design, creation, support and maintenance of robust, scalable, pipeline architecture from multiple diverse sources into a MS based data lake.
Data Architecture
- The design, construction, support and maintenance of multiple data systems, mainly MS SQL databases.
Data Quality
- Responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of complex data sets to meet the functional and non-functional business requirements.
Cloud Integration
- Responsible for building, maintaining and supporting the data solutions to (optimally) extract, transform and load large amounts of data within AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure.
Collaboration
- Extensive partnerships with software developers, data scientists, infrastructure engineers, report writers/dashboard designers and end users.

Experience
Essential:
- Expert knowledge of SQL and programming knowledge e.g. Python, Java, C# etc.
- Experience and knowledge of Databricks and ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory.
- Extensive experience with MS SQL Server.
- Proven hands-on experience working within AWS and Azure environments.
Desirable
- Proficient in working and supporting cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with financial systems.
Qualifications & Training
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Skills & Aptitude
- Effective analytic skills to troubleshoot complex data related issues.
- Confident communication skills at both a technical and a non-technical level
Working Conditions
- Office based role.
- Occasional ad-hoc travel to regional meetings or to partners offices.
