Data Engineer

Sparta Global are hiring a Data Engineer to support the design, development and delivery of data solutions across a large, complex organisation.

The role will focus on building and improving data flows between operational systems, analytics platforms and reporting environments. You will work closely with data, analytics, technology and business teams to deliver reliable, scalable and secure data products that support effective reporting, insight and decision-making.

This is a 6-Month Fixed Term Contract, requiring 2 days per week on-site in South London.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing, building, testing and maintaining data products using feeds from multiple source systems.
  • Developing and improving ETL processes to support analytics, reporting and business intelligence outputs.
  • Applying data modelling principles to create, maintain and update data models for specific business needs.
  • Reverse-engineering data models from existing live systems where required.
  • Undertaking data profiling and source system analysis to understand data quality, structure and usability.
  • Working with analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate these into practical data engineering solutions.
  • Supporting the development of methods to monitor and improve data quality across source systems.
  • Managing changes to existing data routines in line with change control processes.
  • Liaising with technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate delivery progress, risks and the impact of change.
  • Working with data privacy and information security teams to ensure solutions meet security and privacy requirements.
  • Supporting agile delivery practices across the data engineering community.

  • Delivering data analysis, data engineering or reporting projects.
  • Designing data solutions that support end-user reporting and business insight.
  • T-SQL development using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Data Studio or Azure Synapse.
  • Cloud-based data integration and analytics platforms, ideally Azure Synapse Analytics or similar.
  • Data modelling, database design and working with complex datasets.
  • Data profiling, data quality analysis and source system investigation.
  • Using data engineering or analysis tools such as Advanced Excel, MS Access, SAP Business Objects, Python, R or VBA.
  • Eliciting user requirements and communicating technical information clearly to colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders.
