Data Engineer (Hybrid Role – 2 Days Onsite in Bolton)
Location: Bolton (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite) Salary: £60,000 – £80,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
We're looking to appoint an experienced Data Engineer to lead the build of a brand-new cloud-based data warehouse as part of a growing, technology-driven organisation.
This is a greenfield project, offering an exciting opportunity to shape a modern data platform that will underpin the company’s future reporting and analytics capabilities.
The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will:
- Design, build, and maintain a scalable cloud data platform
- Integrate data from multiple business systems into a trusted source for analytics
- Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders to improve data pipelines, quality, and governance
- Support the organisation’s long-term data strategy
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of a greenfield cloud data warehouse
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines for data integration
- Build modern cloud-based solutions using Azure or AWS
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of data platforms
- Improve data quality, governance, and architecture
- Evaluate and optimise existing data infrastructure
- Support reporting teams with clean, trusted datasets
- Document technical efforts and champion engineering best practices

About You
You should be an experienced Data Engineer passionate about solving complex data challenges.
Essential Experience
✔ Proven experience in building a greenfield cloud data warehouse ✔ Strong experience in Data Engineering or similar roles ✔ Advanced SQL skills and query optimisation experience ✔ Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure/AWS) ✔ Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and modern warehousing ✔ Experience in data modelling and governance ✔ Familiarity with Power BI or similar BI/reporting tools ✔ Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Nice-to-Have
🔹 Microsoft Fabric experience (not essential but preferred) 🔹 Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Databricks 🔹 Experience with ERP or eCommerce data 🔹 Master Data Management (MDM) exposure 🔹 DevOps or CI/CD experience
