Data Engineer
Data Engineer – Media Agency (Sphere Digital Recruitment)
About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you will be a key member of a specialist Data and Tech Solutions Team within a media agency. Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and managing databases on cloud platforms (primarily Google Cloud Platform (GCP), but also AWS and Azure)
- Transforming, modelling, and activating data from multiple sources, including:
- Advertising platforms
- Analytics platforms
- Client data
- Delivering best-in-class data visualisation solutions to unite agency teams and engage marketing stakeholders
- Preference for Looker, or familiarity with other BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI
You will also contribute to future-forward marketing transformation projects, integrating:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance campaign performance
- Scaling efficient data unification methods for media planning and activation
- Experience with API configurations will be essential
You must have strong Google BigQuery expertise and be comfortable working with:
- The broader Google Marketing Platform (including Google Analytics)
- Integrations with third-party technologies to improve advertisers’ understanding of campaign and business performance
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Salesforce CRM onboarding
- Experience with data clean rooms and integrating first-party audiences into third-party solutions would be valuable
This role is critical in empowering clients to fully utilise their data, enhancing marketing effectiveness, and deriving actionable audience insights.

Key Responsibilities

Data Integration Management
- Coordinate data integrations between clients, internal platforms, and external third-party platforms (including data partners and development partners)
- Ensure proper access controls, data validation, and clear documentation

Project Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead project management by aligning stakeholders and coordinating resources
- Validate and document process updates regularly

Solution Development & Implementation
- Build and scale data-driven activation and campaign solutions across clients
- Develop and maintain ELT pipelines to ensure data freshness and accuracy
- Troubleshoot missing data and construct robust, trustworthy datasets

Requirements
Technical & Experience
- Expertise as an Engineer/Developer specialised in media and marketing data solutions
- Deep experience in Salesforce (both CRM and Marketing Cloud)
- Strong knowledge of marketing platforms, metrics, and KPIs
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Demonstrated success in implementing cloud-based data solutions
- Experience in all stages of project management and operational workflows
Working Knowledge
- Salesforce ( particularly data cleansing, API calls, and configuration)
- SQL & Python (ETL/ELT processes, scripting for automation)
- Google BigQuery (data modelling, optimisation, and querying)
- Google Marketing Platform (Google Analytics, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360 etc.)
- Data Clean Rooms and client-first party audience integration
- Advertising/Marketing Technology (MarTech) landscape (key players, tools, and workflows)
- BI Tools (preferably Looker, Tableau, or Power BI)
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal)
- Highly detail-oriented (error-free execution)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Analysis-ready mindset with strong data literacy and visualisation skills
