Job Title: Data Engineer
Job Location: Preston – Hybrid- 1 day a week onsite. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role
Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on skills and experience

Role Description
As a Data Engineer you will design, build, and maintain high quality data pipelines, integrations, and data platform components that underpin data products across the organization using ETL with SQL Server, SSIS and Alteryx amongst other technologies.
Operating within a product centric model, the role flexes across multiple capability areas—including Master Data Management (MDM), data archiving and lifecycle management, integration engineering, and specialist engineering domains to ensure data is reliable, accessible, secure, and value-generating.
Data Engineers work within agile, cross-functional squads, collaborating closely with Product Owners, Data Architects, Analysts, and SMEs to deliver incremental value aligned to product outcomes.
Core Duties
Core Data Engineering
- SQL Server Database Development
- Develop data models and curated layers to support data product use cases.
- Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across pipelines and data models
- ETL Development using SSIS and Alteryx
- Connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems
- Embed data quality rules, validation frameworks, observability, and automated monitoring
- Support continuous improvement and technical debt reduction activities

Essential Skills
- Knowledge of Git, version control, CI/CD, and data testing/validation technique
- Creating/modifying and optimising SQL Server database objects; writing complex, testable and efficient advanced SQL code
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT frameworks, orchestration tools, and data modelling practices
- Designing and implementing ETL pipelines using SSIS for data integration to ensure ETL processes performs optimally
- Troubleshooting; identifying and fixing pipeline bottlenecks and data issues
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and best practices

We work across master data management, data quality, metadata management, data integration, and data warehousing, using tools such as SQL, SSIS, and Alteryx to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions. Partnering closely with our customers and stakeholders, we turn business needs into high‑quality data products that enable insight and decision‑making.
