About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is based in Cardiff with a hybrid working model, offering flexibility and a stimulating environment for technical innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and building a modern cloud data platform from scratch, playing a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s data architecture. This is a greenfield opportunity, allowing the engineer to establish best practices, implement scalable solutions, and support reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives. The role provides a unique chance to influence technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and work on impactful projects that drive business growth. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data solutions, ensuring high standards of data quality, security, and performance across the platform.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with proven experience in cloud data engineering. Essential qualifications include proficiency in SQL and Python, with a preference for PySpark. Hands-on experience building cloud-based data platforms on Azure is critical, particularly with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and Azure Data Lake. Candidates should have a solid understanding of designing ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and data governance principles. Experience with Power BI administration and reporting architecture is highly desirable. Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern engineering practices is essential. A good grasp of data security, access control, and scalable analytics solutions will set candidates apart.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop a modern Azure-based data platform that supports current and future data needs.
- Create scalable ETL/ELT pipelines utilizing Databricks, Spark, and Azure services to ensure efficient data processing.
- Implement secure, governed data solutions aligned with DataOps and DataSecOps principles to maintain data integrity and compliance.
- Develop high-quality data models that facilitate reporting and empower self-service analytics for business users.
- Optimize Power BI semantic models and reporting architecture to deliver insightful dashboards and reports.
- Ensure data quality, security, and system performance are maintained across the platform through continuous monitoring and improvements.
- Champion best practices in CI/CD, automation, and engineering to streamline development and deployment processes.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, effective data solutions.
