Job title: Data Engineer
Location: Waltham on the Wolds
Contract length: 12 month contract potential to extend
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 09.00am - 17.00pm (Flexibility)
(i.e 08.00am - 16.00pm) Hybrid
(8 hour day with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)
Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a Data Engineer on behalf of a global manufacturing company. This is an initial 12 Month contract starting asap, with the potential to extend. This position is Hybrid with 2 days in the office per week.
The successful Data Engineer will cover diverse topics in pet nutrition, health, and wellbeing and is achieved through designed experiments and real-world data. As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in translating this diverse data into high-value data products. Working at the intersection of science and technology, you will collaborate closely with our researchers and IT partners to design, develop, and refine a modern data landscape. Your analytical skills and programming foundation will directly support our scientific discoveries, helping deliver our Petcare strategy of creating a better world for pets.
Responsibilities:
- Design, deliver, and maintain robust data products and pipelines that support our business operations and scientific research, providing clear documentation on specifications and having a deep understanding of each solution at the data, technical and business process levels.
- Implement data engineering best practices to standardise development, quality testing, and BAU process, utilizing solid Python/Pyspark and SQL coding standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that high quality, FAIR compliant, data is presented from the products to our researchers, keeping our data catalogue and dictionaries up to date.
- Build, manage and scale our research ready products.
- Structured, reliable, easy accessible data to the research team.
- Untangle complex data.
- Comfortable writing clean, efficient code.
- Data pipelines using Azure services. (Azure data factory/ Azure databricks/ DBT)
- Modern I.T practices - System and Product integration - Micro services/ data lakes/FAIR and common data models.
- DevOps & Terraform
- Design/ Deliver and Maintain robust data products and pipelines

Key Skills/ Qualifications & Essentials:
- Educated to degree level in an IT, Computer Science, Data Science or related subject.
- Have an analytical & problem-solving mindset with the ability to untangle complex data Challenges, ask proactive questions, and design logical models to make data useful for others, preferably within an R&D environment.
- Have a solid programming foundation, with strong working knowledge of Python (specifically PySpark) and SQL and comfortable writing clean, efficient code to manipulate, transform, and query data.
- Have proven expertise in designing and implementing data pipelines using Azure services (such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and DBT).
- Have a comprehensive understanding of modern enterprise IT practices, especially system and product integration, micro-services, data management, data lakes, FAIR (Findable,Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and common data models.
- Have experience of product lifecycle management principles and tools (e.g. DevOps, terraform) and relational database manipulation and interrogation.
- Have the ability to collaborate, understand and translate requirements to designs/architecture.
