Key Purpose of Role

General Atlantic is seeking an Associate-Level Data Engineer for its Data Strategy team, reporting to the VP, Head of Data Engineering. The role collaborates closely with senior data engineers, product managers, infrastructure, security, and application development.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong, inquisitive engineer eager to grow in modern data engineering tools while contributing to enterprise-grade data solutions.


Responsibilities

Data Integration & Preparation

  • Support design, development, and maintenance of cloud-based data ingestion and integration pipelines
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using:
    • Python
    • SQL
    • Spark
    • Databricks
  • Integrate data from heterogeneous sources, including:
    • SaaS platforms
    • APIs
    • Databases
    • Cloud applications
  • Develop reusable data integration components and frameworks
  • Monitor pipelines, troubleshoot, and ensure production operations comply

Data as a Service

  • Assist in building centralized data services and APIs for analytics, reporting, and applications
  • Support creation/maintenance of logical data models, abstractions, and service layers
  • Participate in batch and near-real-time data processing workflows
  • Contribute to cloud-native migrations of legacy systems

Self-Service Data Platform

  • Prepare curated datasets for data lakes, enterprise data hubs, and warehouses
  • Work with engineers to optimize scalable data storage/compute using Databricks and SaaS
  • Enable data access for analytics, reporting, and data science teams

Data Design & Development

  • Design maintenance of SQL objects, data models, and transformations
  • Write clean, maintainable Python code for processing and orchestration
  • Participate in:
    • Code reviews
    • Testing
    • Documentation (ensuring reliability and quality)

Knowledge Requirements

Background & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent engineering field
  • 2–4 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related technologies
  • Exposure to financial services or large-scale data environments preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in:
    • Python
    • SQL
  • Familiarity with:
    • Cloud platforms (preferably Azure
    • Storing structured/semi-structured data
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake)
    • ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and monitoring
  • Optional: BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau

Professional Skills

  • Problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Ability to:
    • Learn new tools quickly
    • Adapt to changing environments
  • Strong collaboration skills in cross-functional settings
  • Effective written/verbal communication for technical non-technical stakeholders
