As an Albany Beck consultant, you will join our team and work directly with a leading London Market insurance client, supporting the continued development and operation of its Exposure Management technology estate.
Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to support business-critical Exposure Management platforms and processes. The role will combine advanced SQL development, data engineering, production support, automation and technical troubleshooting. You will work closely with Exposure Management, Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, QA and database teams to maintain existing services while delivering system enhancements and reducing manual operational activity. You will take technical ownership of daily and month-end processes, investigate production incidents and data-quality issues, and help improve the resilience, efficiency and automation of the wider Exposure Management environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and production support for Exposure Management applications and processes.
- Monitor and investigate failed jobs, failed data runs, production incidents and data-quality issues.
- Develop and maintain advanced SQL processes, stored procedures, views, functions and database jobs.
- Build and support ETL processes, data integrations and automated file-transfer solutions.
- Support business-critical daily and month-end reporting, aggregation and data-processing activities.
- Troubleshoot backend application issues and resolve technical problems affecting system availability.
- Deliver automation initiatives that reduce manual intervention and operational risk.
- Support deployment, testing, release management and code promotion across development, UAT and production environments.
- Contribute technical input to solution design, product backlog refinement and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Develop reporting and analytics solutions using tools such as SSRS and Power BI.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, knowledge articles and support runbooks.
- Work directly with Exposure Management stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical system enhancements.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers and DBAs.

Required Experience
- Strong commercial experience working as a Data Engineer, SQL Developer, Application Support Engineer or similar technical role.
- Advanced T-SQL development experience, including - Stored procedures, Views, functions and triggers, Query optimisation and performance tuning, SQL Agent jobs, Database troubleshooting, Data modelling and schema design.
- Experience developing and supporting ETL and data-integration processes.
- Experience with SSIS or an equivalent integration tool.
- Strong understanding of batch processing, data validation, reconciliation and large-scale data transformation.
- Experience supporting business-critical production applications and investigating failed processes.
- Experience working with file-based integrations, SFTP and automated file transfers.
- Knowledge of reporting and analytics tools such as SSRS or Power BI.
- Experience using Azure DevOps or Git for source control and release management.
- Understanding of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and automated testing principles.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders.
- Experience working across development, UAT and production environments.

Desirable Experience
- Exposure Management or catastrophe-modelling experience.
- Experience supporting underwriting or insurance technology platforms.
- Understanding of portfolio modelling, pricing tools or risk aggregation.
- Experience within the London Market insurance sector.
- Knowledge of platforms such as Moody’s RiskLink, Risk Modeler, Verisk Sequel Impact or similar insurance applications.
- Experience improving operational resilience and recoverability.
- Exposure to Python, PowerShell, Azure Data Factory or Azure SQL.
