About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established UK organisation that relies on data to drive business performance and decision-making. They are looking for a Data Engineer to join their technology team and help develop and maintain modern data platforms that support reporting, analytics and operational systems.
Working alongside software engineers, analysts and business stakeholders, you will play a key role in designing scalable data solutions, improving data quality and enabling the business to make better use of its information assets.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Design scalable data models that support reporting, analytics and future business requirements.
- Build and enhance automated ETL/ELT processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Monitor data platform performance, identifying opportunities to improve resilience, scalability and processing times.
- Implement data validation, monitoring and governance processes to ensure high levels of data accuracy.
- Work closely with technical and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
- Support the ongoing development of cloud-based data platforms and contribute to technical best practices.
- Produce clear technical documentation to support knowledge sharing and ongoing maintenance.
- Participate in code reviews and follow modern software engineering practices, including version control and automated deployment.
- Keep up to date with new technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.

Experience & Technical Skills
The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate experience in several of the following areas:
- Strong SQL skills with experience writing efficient, high-performing queries.
- Commercial experience using Python for data engineering and data transformation.
- Building and maintaining production data pipelines.
- Experience with one or more modern orchestration or distributed data processing technologies.
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling.
- Experience working with relational database technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure automation.
- Understanding of containerisation and modern deployment practices.
- Experience using Git and CI/CD workflows within a collaborative development environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex data issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous, although not essential:
- Large-scale or high-volume data environments.
- Columnar databases or modern analytical data stores.
- Business intelligence or data visualisation platforms.
- API technologies, metadata management or data governance tooling.
- Experience working within a regulated commercial environment.
- Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.
