Why Be a Data Engineer at THG?
We’re building a robust engineering capability as the backbone for all analytics, data science, and AI initiatives. As a Data Engineer in the Engineering & Governance pillar, you’ll work within one of three domain-aligned teams: Customer, Commercial, or Operations.
This is an early-career role with significant responsibility: consolidating fragmented data, developing reliable pipelines, and establishing a dependable data foundation for the business.
We’re not looking for perfectionists—we’re looking for you: a technically capable, curious person driven by the challenge of creating high-quality data infrastructure. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, want to build meaningful solutions, and grow quickly—this role is yours.
What You’ll Do
Pipeline Development
- Design and maintain data pipelines that extract data from source systems, transform it, and load it into structured datasets in BigQuery
- Align with architectural patterns defined by the Engineering Lead, ensuring consistent data ingestion, transformation, and storage practices
- Migrate legacy on-prem SQL Server pipelines to BigQuery and Dataform
- Apply version control (Git) as a standard—your code should be reviewed, documented, and well-maintained

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
