Data Engineer

Birmingham (Hybrid, 1 day per week on-site) | £50,000 - £60,000

This is an excellent opportunity for a Data Engineer to join a purpose-driven organisation where data plays a key role in improving services and supporting business decisions. You will have the chance to take ownership of end-to-end data engineering projects, work with modern Azure technologies, and contribute to the development of a growing data function.

The Role

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions across their Azure data platform.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines from data ingestion through to reporting-ready datasets
  • Building and optimising data models, SQL transformations, and workflows to improve performance and reliability
  • Managing data quality monitoring, alerting, and issue resolution processes
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Enhancing and maintaining the Azure data platform across Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Synapse Analytics
  • Implementing security, governance, and compliance controls across data solutions
  • Contributing to Agile delivery processes and working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Producing clear technical documentation and supporting knowledge sharing across the team

Your Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines in production environments
  • Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses and Dataflows Gen2
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data technologies, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Advanced SQL skills covering data modelling, transformation, and performance optimisation
  • Experience using Python for scripting, automation, and data processing
  • Understanding of Git, CI/CD practices, and Agile delivery methodologies
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and compliance standards
  • Ability to manage technical delivery independently and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable experience:

  • Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, and workflow orchestration
  • dbt for modular and tested data modelling
  • Experience working within a regulated environment
