Hybrid Role: Data Engineer
Work 2 days in our Basingstoke office and on-site or remotely the remaining 3 days.

### Key Responsibilities
Through collaboration with analysts and lines of business, you’ll:
- Develop and integrate data products—building scalable and future-proof data pipelines that improve day-to-day operations
- Re-engineer workflows to eliminate manual errors, maximise automation, and ensure re-usability
- Design and deploy data streaming solutions—allowing real-time insights for agile decision-making
- Execute ETL/ELT processes—with high performance, reliability, and clean code standards
- Design modular data models—enabling analytics teams to build reusable dashboards and applications while promoting data governance and accuracy
- Optimise and expand database systems—ensuring databases can scale for predictive analytics and make data available with high availability
- Drive user-facing systems further—by implementing data pipelines for cultural initiatives like our retail alcohol policy tool
- Lead incident resolution—root cause analysis and resolution of database incidents and performance problems
- Promote DevOps practices—shifting the way we review and deploy code through software repositories and release pipelines

### Your Skills and Experience
Essential
- Formal qualification (degree or industry-recognised certifications, e.g., Microsoft, AWS)
- Practical experience from a comparable role—particularly designing data systems and optimising SQL queries for large-scale transformations
- Azure ETL expertise:
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse
- Deployment pipelines using CI/CD and Azure DevOps
- SQL mastery:
- Proficient in T-SQL—experience writing complex queries, stored procedures, and optimizing large T-SQL scripts for high performance
- Python and data pipelining: PySpark experience plus Python scripting for ETL/ELT processes
- Database exposure: Experience with MS SQL Server (on-premise or cloud) and Cosmos DB
- REST API standards: Ability to build and consume APIs
- Clean code focus: Proficiency in Azure Functions and writing secure, maintainable utility code for backend services
- Agile DNA: Familial with Agile development methodologies—preferably Agile project frameworks
- Architectural focus: Strong understanding of SOA (service-oriented architecture) and approaches to low-code integration (e.g., Logic Apps and Serverless Services)
- Data-driven mindset:
- Actively recognises opportunities to re-use information assets across projects
- Mindful of data standards and ensures every solution reflects our values
