Ada Mode is an industrial technology and data science company whose aim is to improve the performance of complex industrial processes through artificial intelligence, engineering expertise and great design. Ada Mode helps clients by identifying opportunities in their data, designing a strategy and developing the solution. Help solve complex engineering problems with data

Ada Mode is a Bristol-based engineering and data science company applying advanced analytics, AI and software development to real-world technical challenges in energy and defence.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team: someone with a strong background in data engineering, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to use Python and SQL to build practical data solutions for clients.

This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, technically demanding projects while combining hands-on delivery with client engagement.

The role

As a Data Engineer you will work across a variety of projects, helping clients understand their challenges, shape the right technical approach, and deliver robust solutions.

This role combines technical delivery with client-facing work. You might be building a data workflow in Python and SQL, contributing to technical discussions, or working directly with clients to understand requirements and present progress.


What you’ll do

  • Work with clients to understand their goals, challenges and data landscape
  • Build strong client relationships through clear communication and reliable delivery
  • Translate engineering and scientific problems into structured analytical and data engineering tasks
  • Design, build and maintain robust data pipelines and workflows
  • Use Python and SQL to develop reliable, maintainable and fit-for-purpose data solutions
  • Support development of structured data warehouses derived from an evolving landscape of source data
  • Support efforts to manage unstructured data sources and establish robust connection to wider structured models
  • Work with complex datasets to support analysis, modelling and decision-support tools
  • Collaborate with colleagues across engineering, data science and software delivery
  • Contribute to technical documentation, project discussions and client presentations

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, physical sciences, mathematics or a related discipline
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage client relationships and work confidently in a client-facing environment
  • Strong data engineering capability
  • Confident coding ability in Python and SQL and experience working with Databricks and PowerBI
  • A practical, structured approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Applicants must be able to maintain UK security clearance

Desirable

  • Experience in consulting or external client-facing roles
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, databases, ETL pipelines, APIs or modern data architectures
  • Experience in analytics, machine learning, large language models, RegEx, optimisation or decision-support tools
  • Experience in regulated or safety-critical environments
