Data Engineer

Newcastle (on-site)
£50,000-£100,000 + bonus
Financial Services or Defence (separate divisions)

Data Engineer Overview

The environment is geared towards people who enjoy tackling complex challenges, working closely with end users, and taking ownership from day one. Most of the work is greenfield, with separate divisions in financial services and defence-related projects, and will be creating insurance and energy divisions in the near future.

A growing high-calibre tech consultancy is seeking Data Engineers of various levels and disciplines to build robust, scalable data platforms/implement AI/ML for clients.

Rather than hiring for a single technology stack or narrow role, they're assembling a team of exceptionally smart engineers, data specialists and technical leaders who can solve difficult problems, communicate well, and thrive in highly demanding environments.

They're building teams in data, AI/ML, and technical leadership, with a particular focus on hiring exceptionally strong problem solvers rather than simply matching a specific tech stack. They're looking for people who understand how things work under the hood, not just how to use the latest tools.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
