Data Engineer – ETL & Data Warehouse Specialist

Responsibilities
Core Duties
Design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines (ETL) to integrate data from disparate source systems into the data warehouse, ensuring accuracy and scalability. Develop and optimize data warehouse schemas and tables to support complex analytics and reporting needs across global operations. Write and refine sophisticated SQL queries, deploying Python/other scripting languages to transform, aggregate, or analyze massive datasets efficiently. Implement data quality measures, priorities, and audits (e.g., outlier detection, validation checks, cleansing algorithms) to enforce data reliability for decision-making. Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to translate business challenges into technical specifications while maintaining system integrity. Field schema migrations, write documentation, and institutionalize best practices (designs, data flow diagrams, data quality dashboards) to promote transparency and developer onboarding. Manage multi-project workloads with laser focus on cost, latency, and resilience, delivering high-value output while prioritizing based on impact—because at Deel, alignment trumps algorithm.

Qualifications
Technical Requirements
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in data engineering or equivalent, including ETL/Data Warehouse architecture and optimization.
- Proven expertise in complex SQL (PostgreSQL/Redshift/Snowflake preferred), with experience building scalable schemas and analytical models.
- Hands-on familiarity with data management (PySpark, Hadoop, or alternative orchestration) and backend pipelines (Strimzi/Avro/Protobuf).
- Technical fluency in Python, Scala, or Java for automation, data transformation, and pipeline orchestration (Apache Airflow/Dagster/preferred).
- Exposure to data quality frameworks or best practices, including validation, anomaly detection, and anomaly streaming.
- Experience working with large-scale datasets (streaming/parquet CSV, cloud storage, databricks, greenplum).

Total Rewards

Competitive Base Pay
- Based on objective factors (experience, skills, location) tied to market rates.
- Newer hire (0–1-year experience): ~$110k–$140k
- Early career (2–5 years): ~$140k–$180k
- Mid-/senior tenured: ~$180k–$220k+
- + Organization-Level Bonuses: Annual measurable execution, exceeding quarterly quotas

- Bonus (flexible annual reward): 10–30%—if Deel succeeds, you succeed.
- Equity & Stock (dynamic at your location): up to 5%–7% vesting over 4 years.
