Data Engineer – Graduate Considered
A unique opportunity for a Data Engineer to join a well-funded early-stage technology company. Initially working remotely, with plans for a hybrid London office, you will play a key role in building and maintaining the data platform that underpins an innovative software product. Working with data throughout its lifecycle, you will help collect, organise and improve information so it can be used across the software platform. This is an exciting opportunity to join at an early stage, work with modern cloud technologies and have a genuine impact on the direction of both the platform and the engineering team.
Due to the nature of some client projects, you must be willing and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance. You can join the team and work on other commercial projects while your clearance application is progressing.
Location
London office, hybrid, minimum 2 days a week
Salary
£35,000 to £60,000 per annum (lower end for a Graduate, more for experienced)
Requirements for Data Engineer – Graduate Considered
- Experience working with Python, whether gained commercially, academically or through personal projects
- Experience working with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL
- Understanding of data modelling and organising data for software applications
- Ideally, experience working with Docker or containerised applications
- Experience working with AWS, ideally including S3, RDS or Lambda
- Experience building or working with API-driven data solutions would be advantageous
- Understanding of data quality principles and the importance of producing accurate, reliable datasets
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders and the wider engineering team
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced start-up environment where you can take ownership, influence technical direction, and make a genuine impact on the company's success
- You must be eligible to obtain UK SC Security Clearance due to the nature of some projects (this usually means you have been a UK resident for the past 5 years, have a clean criminal record, etc.) Existing SC Clearance would be a benefit
- Experience with any of the following would be beneficial: Infrastructure as Code (IaC), FastAPI, RESTful APIs, Amazon CloudWatch and data health dashboards

For Graduate applicants
- A strong academic background in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another closely related STEM discipline
- Practical experience with Python and SQL through university projects, internships, placements or personal projects
- A GitHub repository, portfolio or university project work that demonstrates your technical ability and interest in data engineering
Responsibilities for Data Engineer
- Develop and maintain data pipelines that bring information from multiple sources into the software platform
- Organise and structure data within PostgreSQL, ensuring it is accurate, efficient and ready for use across the platform
- Build validation processes and monitoring tools to maintain high levels of data quality and reliability
- Work closely with software engineers to ensure data is accessible and supports software features, APIs and business processes
- Improve and maintain datasets by enhancing data quality, removing duplicates and ensuring information can be trusted
- Produce clear documentation covering datasets, data quality processes and any transformations applied to the data
