Senior Data Engineer (Modern Architecture & Platform Evolution)
Salary: £80,000 per annum
Location: Hybrid Glasgow office
Position Type: Full-time
About the Opportunity
Are you an expert Data Engineer who thrives on transforming legacy infrastructure into cutting-edge, modern data architecture?
We are a global enterprise looking for a senior technical authority to join our Data Services team during a pivotal modernisation phase. We are transitioning our data ecosystem from a traditional cloud data warehousing estate to a next-generation serverless storage and unified lakehouse architecture.
This role is not about maintaining pipelines in isolation or delivering one-off engineering solutions. It is about building a durable, modern data platform that serves as the foundation for advanced analytics, machine learning, and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Strengthen Current Pipelines: Take joint ownership of existing enterprise data ingestion and integration pipelines, sourcing data from major CRMs, ERPs, and bespoke third-party systems. Maintain a reliable multi-layered medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
- Drive Future-State Architecture: Actively lead the evolution of the data platform toward a serverless lakehouse design. Build efficient transformation pipelines utilizing DBT SQL models, Spark notebooks, and Python.
- CI/CD & DevOps Automation: Establish robust, end-to-end CI/CD practices across environment tiers (Dev, QA, Prod), ensuring automated deployment of pipelines, transformations, and schema models.
- Platform Observability & Security: Advance logging, monitoring, and proactive failure detection. Maintain and enhance stringent access controls to ensure data remains highly governed and secure.
- Engineering Standards & Mentorship: Define and embed reusable frameworks and coding standards across the data platform. Mentor other engineers and analytics practitioners to elevate the team’s technical maturity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
